Building a brand and maintaining market share for Vietnamese agricultural products in the UK market
TCDN – The value of agricultural products exported by Vietnam through Lao Cai Border Gate alone reached nearly 220 million USD, up 155% over the same period last year, accounting for 43.3% of export value.
According to information from Lao Cai International Border Gate Customs Branch, agricultural exports through Lao Cai Border Gate have increased sharply since the beginning of the year, with turnover value increasing compared to the same period last year.
In addition to traditional products such as dragon fruit, bananas, and watermelon that have maintained stable customs clearance, from the beginning of the year until now, durian has been added, with output and turnover value increasing sharply.
As of October 10, Lao Cai International Border Gate Customs Branch has completed customs clearance procedures to export more than 52,000 tons of durian to China’s Yunnan and Sichuan provinces through Kim Thanh Road Border Gate, worth over 204 million USD. Therefore, despite being a new product that has been cleared through customs procedures here for 1 year, durian has risen to become the export fruit with the largest turnover at Lao Cai International Border Gate Customs Branch today.
At Kim Thanh International Border Gate No. 2, Lao Cai province, there are currently 50-80 vehicles carrying durian for export every day. This is a record high number ever at this border gate. Each container is worth nearly 2 billion VND, 4-5 times higher than traditional export fruits.
According to statistics from the Lao Cai International Border Gate Customs Branch, from the beginning of the year until now, there have been about 20 types of fresh fruits and vegetables exported through the area such as durian, lychee, mangosteen, banana, pomelo, watermelon, etc. longan, jackfruit, passion fruit, fresh lemon, sweet potato, ginger, turmeric… While in the same period last year there were only: banana, mango, watermelon, lychee, jackfruit, dragon fruit.
As of October 11, there were a total of 556 businesses participating in import and export activities of goods through Lao Cai Border Gate. Export turnover from the beginning of the year to September 30 at Lao Cai International Customs Branch reached 417.9 million USD, up 265% over the same period last year.

Mr. Vu Ngoc Nam, representative of An Nguyen Import-Export Joint Stock Company, said that durian is strictly inspected by the Chinese side immediately after customs clearance, so to limit risks, businesses must meet the requirements. Strict requirements on food safety and hygiene, pesticide residues do not exceed allowable levels, ensuring packaging specifications, traceability, and growing area codes.
Some Vietnamese agricultural fruits are also exported in quite high quantities through Lao Cai Border Gate, such as dragon fruit reaching 103,000 tons, worth over 75 million USD; lychees over 41,000 tons, worth over 23 million USD; 15,200 tons of jackfruit, worth over 11.9 million USD; watermelon, 49,800 tons, worth 9.7 million USD; 14,200 tons of mangoes, worth 8.1 million USD…
