Gia Lai: Key agricultural products for export had a breakthrough at the beginning of the year
Mr. Pham Van Binh, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Gia Lai province, said that the province’s agricultural product exports in the first months of the year showed positive signs, especially strong growth in product value.
Accordingly, export turnover in the first 2 months of 2024 is about 167 million USD, reaching 22.7% of the year plan, up 11.33% over the same period last year. Of which, coffee exports have the highest output with an output of about 45,000 tons, revenue of 115 million USD, an increase of more than 7% in quantity and 17% in value. In addition, rubber latex exports reached over 90 tons, revenue of 0.11 million USD, an increase of more than 10% in value; Other items 51.8 million USD, up 0.02% in value.
The reason is due to increased consumer demand in the world market, especially during the New Year in some main markets such as Europe and America. In addition, China lifted its zero Covid policy, stimulating consumer demand to increase again. Accordingly, many types of Vietnamese agricultural products (bananas, passion fruit, durian, bird’s nest, sweet potatoes…) are officially exported to China.
As for coffee products, at the beginning of the year the volume of goods was still large so many exports were possible. On the other hand, coffee prices increased sharply, so export value also increased compared to the same month in 2023.
According to Mr. Binh, Gia Lai’s main agricultural product exports are expected to make a breakthrough in 2024 when product quality is increasingly improved to get closer to the world. Coffee is considered the main crop of Gia Lai province with an area of 100,600 hectares. Prices are rising, export markets are increasingly expanding thanks to the impact of free trade agreements. In addition, growers have proactively deployed the construction of high-quality coffee material areas that meet the standards aimed at export.
As the leading coffee export enterprise of Gia Lai province, in 2023, Vinh Hiep Co., Ltd. exported to more than 60 countries around the world with more than 135,000 tons of coffee. In just the first 2 months of 2024 alone, the company exported coffee bringing in more than 2,500 billion VND in revenue. In particular, the main export markets include: Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Switzerland.
Besides coffee, key agricultural products of Gia Lai province such as rubber, passion fruit, and bananas are promising to create an export breakthrough. Especially in the first months of the year, when export orders for these types of agricultural products are increasing, as well as the market is increasingly expanding.
Headquartered in Gia Lai, Nafoods Group Joint Stock Company is the leading passion fruit export enterprise in Vietnam, exporting 1,300 tons of fresh fruit materials to foreign markets in January 2024. Of which, concentrated passion fruit output accounts for 60% and NFC passion fruit production accounts for 30%.
Ms. Ho Thi Loan, Director of Industrial Sales, Nafoods Group Joint Stock Company, said that passion fruit exports will bring high value in 2024 when prices are constantly increasing again. Specifically, the price of processed lemons is at 10,000 – 11,000 VND/kg, of lemons at 14,000 – 15,000 VND/kg. The reason is that domestic and world businesses have a need to expand production, as well as the lemon market demand of China, Thailand, and Laos increased sharply at the beginning of the year.
According to Ms. Loan, in January 2024, all of Vietnam’s processed passion fruit products reached nearly 4,000 tons, an increase of 4 times compared to the same period in 2023. Of which, the largest output is Puree passion fruit. seeds account for more than 60% and passion fruit concentrate accounts for 17%.
In recent years, bananas have also been the main export agricultural product of Gia Lai province. With more than 400 hectares of bananas in Dak Doa district, Hung Son High-tech Agriculture Joint Stock Company is a pioneer enterprise in banana export. In 2023, the company will export 20,000 tons of fresh bananas to the markets of Korea, Japan, Singapore and Middle Eastern countries, with a total export turnover of 350 billion VND.
In the first 2 months of 2024, the company exported more than 3,000 tons of fresh bananas with a revenue of about 50 billion VND. In 2024, Hung Son High-tech Agriculture Joint Stock Company aims to increase export output by 20%, about 24,000 tons of bananas, bringing in revenue of about 400 billion VND.
To achieve this, the company’s entire banana production area must follow a uniform process and must meet the strict standards of importing countries. At the same time, the company has applied scientific and technical advances to production to improve productivity and product quality.
