Toan Phat Irradiation Factory (Long An) has experimented with dose mapping for fresh passion fruit, preparing for export opportunities to the Australian market.
Toan Phat Irradiation Factory of Toan Phat Co., Ltd. (Long An) has just experimented with dose mapping for fresh passion fruit exported to the Australian market.
In July 2023, the Plant Protection Department (PPD) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam received notice from the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) about the draft “Report on requirements import demand for Vietnam’s fresh passion fruit exported to this market”.
This draft report assessed Vietnam’s proposal for access to the Australian market for fresh passion fruit for human consumption.
Accordingly, DAFF said fresh passion fruit harvested from growing areas in Vietnam can be imported into the Australian market, but must comply with biosecurity requirements. The report identified 11 pest species as biosecurity risks, including fruit flies, aphids, spiders and thrips, etc.
In order to minimize pests, the draft report proposed a number of risk management measures such as: establishing pest-free growing areas, pest-free production areas or pest-free production facilities. . At the same time, DAFF believes that the application of irradiation treatment is considered effective in pest control.
Faced with this requirement, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of provinces/cities has directed associations, organizations, individuals, and specialized units to proactively prepare technical conditions for growing areas, out measures to promote Vietnam’s agricultural exports to the Australian market, especially meeting the conditions and being ready to export fresh passion fruit once successfully opened.
Based on the proactive spirit and willingness to pioneer to accompany Vietnamese Agricultural Products and export businesses, Toan Phat Irradiation Factory has conducted research and implemented radiation dose distribution. Dosing mapping on fresh passion fruit exported to Australia, on March 9, 2024.
The process of implementing dose mapping on fresh passion fruit exported to Australia at Toan Phat Irradiation Factory has been successful, aiming to become a fresh passion fruit irradiation facility in Vietnam. Vietnam was approved by DAFF and pioneered in providing irradiation treatment services for fresh passion fruit when officially opening to the Australian market.
Thereby, ensuring that fresh passion fruit after being irradiated at Toan Phat Irradiation Factory is not contaminated with pests according to Australian regulations, product quality and other requirements are met according to regulations. standards set by DAFF.
This is to promote Vietnam’s agricultural export activities, bringing high quality value and economic efficiency to Vietnam’s fresh passion fruit when reaching foreign markets.
DAFF said that the application of irradiation treatment technology is considered effective in pest control on fresh passion fruit, creating conditions for this type of agricultural product to have the opportunity to officially export to Australia in the near future. .
Currently, Vietnamese passion fruit is getting closer to the Australian market as the Australian side has conducted a field survey. The information was given at the Ministerial Dialogue on Vietnam – Australia Trade between Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien and Australian Minister in charge of Trade and Tourism, Don Farrell, which took place in Melbourne, Australia, today.
