In the last months of 2024, many countries around the world have increased to buy Vietnamese agricultural products, including rice, vegetables and pangasius. This move, making businesses (DN) have many expectations for export activities in the remaining months of the year.
In recent years, Vietnam has emerged and has become a supplier of agricultural products in the top of the countries around the world. Three typical items in the export of agricultural products of the country in general and the Mekong Delta in particular (with high export turnover) are vegetables, rice and pangasius. In 2024, businesses set targets to export agricultural products reached 55 billion USD. Of the 3 items mentioned, items with the highest export turnover are vegetables. Accordingly, Vietnam expects to export this item to 7 billion USD. The product is representative to the aforementioned turnover of durian, dragon fruit, mango, passion fruit and many other items. Currently, Vietnamese vegetables export to countries around the world have 2 forms, fresh fruits and frozen goods. “In terms of market, China is the largest export market of Vietnamese vegetables, followed by the United States, Korea, Thailand and other countries …” – Ms. Ngo Tuong Vy, CEO of Joint Stock Company Part of the Import Export Group Chanh Thu shared.
According to data from Vietnam Customs, 7 months of 2024, China imported nearly 2.5 billion USD of fruits and vegetables from Vietnam (up 25% over the same period). The US and South Korea reached turnover of 189 and 188 million USD, respectively (up 31% and 51% over the same period). The most surprising in Vietnam’s vegetable imports is the Thai market. In the 7 months of 2024, the country spent $ 123 million to import Vietnamese vegetables (an increase of more than 70% compared to the same period in 2023).
In An Giang, the unit with a thickness involved in the export of vegetables and fruits is An Giang Food Vegetable Joint Stock Company (Antesco). This unit currently has 3 factories located in An Giang, a total production capacity of 45,000 tons/year. The company’s business activities covered all regions and regions throughout the country, including in Cambodia. The system of factories, chains, machinery and equipment has been upgraded synchronously and modernly, serving the annual vegetable export program of the province. In 8 months of 2024, the province’s vegetable export turnover was estimated at 98,400 tons, equivalent to 50.2 million USD (up 14.91% in turnover over the same period). The second highest export turnover in agricultural export is rice.
It is expected that the export turnover of rice in 2024 will reach 5 billion USD, Vietnam will become one of the 3 strongest rice exporting countries in the world. From now until the end of the year, rice exports continue to be favorable, due to the demand for rice import of the Philippines, Indonesia and some other countries are still high. These countries are both a large market and a traditional customer.
“Thanks to promoting export of rice and rice in the field is always high. Radio 8, I sold prices from 8,300 – 8,500 VND/kg; OM 18 is currently priced from 8,300 – 8,500 VND/kg. This price, helping farmers stabilize their lives ” – Mr. Tran Van De (Phu Vinh commune, Tan Chau Town) said.
In addition to vegetables and rice (two items with billion -dollar export turnover), pangasius is also a good export turnover. It is expected that in 2024, Vietnam Pangasius exports will reach a turnover of US $ 1.8 billion (an increase of 6% compared to 2023). This is a Vietnamese product with an absolute advantage. “Currently, US, China, EU and Asian importers promote imports to serve big events at the end of the year. Pangasius processing enterprises are entering the peak of production ” – Mr. Doan Toi, General Director of Nam Viet Joint Stock Company.
There are 15 enterprises in the whole province, with 18 pangasius processing factories. Processing capacity from these factories reached 300,000 tons/year. The products are mainly Philea, cut bends, whole children, butterflies. The United States, Asia, China and other countries in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans -Pacific (TPP) are the main markets of pangasius exporting enterprises in the province. In 2024, the province’s export turnover is expected to reach over 310 million USD.
The highlight of Vietnam’s agricultural exports from the beginning of the year, the export turnover of the main items of the nation and the province are higher than the same period last year. On the national level, 8 months of 2024, fruit and vegetable products reached 4.63 billion USD (up 30.6% over the same period); Rice reached US $ 3.85 billion (up 21.7% over the same period); Pangasius reached US $ 1.2 billion (up 8.2% over the same period). Particularly in An Giang, 8 months of 2024, enterprises in the province exporting pangasius were estimated at 108,500 tons, turnover reached 193.9 million USD, output and turnover equivalent to the same period in 2023.
Exporting Vietnamese agricultural products is entering peak period. Hopefully, with great efforts and determination, Vietnamese agricultural products exported to the world will reach 55 billion USD in 2024.
