BTNO – In about 1 month, more than 3,000 hectares of durian in Tay Ninh province will enter the main harvest. To find an outlet for the product, authorities and people are currently implementing many solutions, including promoting the issuance of planting area codes, aiming for export.
Expand export routes
Bau Don commune, Go Dau district is considered the capital of durian growing in Tay Ninh, with an area of up to 1,500 hectares. To increase the value of agricultural products and stabilize output, many farmers proactively change production methods, ensuring product quality, food safety and hygiene. To date, many gardens have been granted planting area codes for export to the Chinese market.
For example, Bau Don fruit tree cooperative (Cooperative) with more than 40 hectares of durian growing. Since 2021, cooperative members have produced according to VietGAP standards, and registered the growing area and QR code of the durian brand. Up to now, Bau Don Fruit Cooperative has been granted 3 growing area codes for export to the Chinese market and aims to export to the European market.
Ms. Pham Thi Nga, living in hamlet 1, Bau Don commune and a member of the Bau Don fruit tree cooperative, said: Not only is it delicious and clean, but thanks to good care and applying effective techniques, the durian gardens all produce fruit that is good. requirements, uniform size, quality unmatched anywhere else. In the 2023 durian crop, the product is recognized as an OCOP product and has a growing area code, the selling price is quite stable from 60,000 – 70,000 VND/kg.
In Truong Mit commune, Duong Minh Chau District, there are also more than 200 hectares of durian trees, of which 27 hectares of 22 households have been granted planting area codes for export to the Chinese market. With strict application of farming procedures, careful recording from when the tree flowers, removing pistils, tying string to mark… farmers hope this year’s durian crop will sell at high prices and stable output.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung – Chairman of Truong Mit Commune Farmers’ Association affirmed: “With durian gardens that have been granted planting area codes, product consumption will be stable. Because there is an origin, there is a unit committed to purchasing, the price is guaranteed to be stable throughout the gardener’s harvesting process.”
It is necessary to strictly manage export “passports”.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), by March 2024, the whole province had issued 51 export fruit growing area codes with a total area of more than 1,200 hectares. Of these, 19 codes have been approved by the importing country for export on fruits: banana, jackfruit, mango, longan, durian, seedless lemon; 32 growing area codes are awaiting approval by the importing country. The whole province also has 5 establishments granted export codes, of which 4 codes have been approved by the importing country (China).
Reality shows that strict management of fruit growing area codes in general and durian in particular is the most important issue today to ensure sustainable export. For many years, Tay Ninh durian has been mainly distributed and consumed in the domestic market. Expanding the official export market is a good opportunity for Tay Ninh durian in particular and the country in general. The development of planting area codes and packaging facilities is aimed at achieving safe, quality products for export and the domestic market.
Mr. Phan Hoai Thinh – Director of Bau Don Fruit Cooperative said that the cooperative has built 3 planting area codes. After being granted the code, the cooperative very closely manages the production process, records, limits the use of pesticides, improves product quality, and meets export standards.
Aiming at the goal of sustainable agricultural development, in recent times the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has actively guided and supported farmers and agricultural cooperatives in building planting area codes. This solution not only helps farmers improve production efficiency but also contributes to expanding consumption markets for local agricultural products.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Xuan – Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: “We have granted at least 2 processing and packaging facilities and dozens of codes to individuals and cooperatives growing durian and other edible plants. other fruit. In the near future, we will continue to promote propaganda and create favorable procedural conditions so that farmers can quickly get the growing area code and be recognized by partners. On the other hand, we will strengthen inspections to ensure that those who are granted codes must comply with the regulations of the State as well as those of our partners.”
It can be affirmed that granting durian growing area codes not only meets the origin traceability requirements of import markets, but also contributes to raising people’s awareness, towards transparent agriculture. transparency, responsibility.
