According to a representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), the total export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fisheries in the first 6 months of 2024 will reach 29.2 billion USD, an increase of 19% over the same period in 2023.

Contributing to this result are 7 products, product groups with an export value of over 1 billion USD, including coffee, rubber, rice, vegetables, cashew nuts, shrimp, and wood products.

As for durian products, according to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, in the first 5 months of 2024, export turnover will reach more than 800 million USD, accounting for 40% of Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable export turnover, becoming a phenomenon of tree development fruit in agriculture…

Notably, the United States, China, and Japan continue to be Vietnam’s three largest export markets for agricultural, forestry, and fishery products, with the value of export products all increasing.

Compared to the same period last year, export value to the United States accounted for 20.7%, an increase of 20.8%; China accounted for 20.2%, an increase of 9.5% and Japan accounted for 6.7%, an increase of 5%. This shows that the quality of Vietnamese agricultural products has been improved, because these are markets that require strict standards and regulations.

Regarding rice exports, Mr. Nguyen Nhu Cuong, Director of the Department of Crop Production (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) said that exports in the first 6 months of the year reached 4.68 million tons, an increase of 10.4%, reaching a value of 2.98 billion USD, an increase of 32% over the same period last year. If the second half of the year remains as favorable as the first half, rice exports for the whole year are likely to reach 8.5 – 9 million tons, reaching a turnover of 5 – 5.5 billion USD.

Vietnam’s rice exports in the second half of 2023 and first half of 2024 have greatly benefited from India’s suspension of rice exports. In 2023, Vietnam’s average rice export price will surpass its competitors to become the world leader. Specifically, by the end of 2023, the export price of Vietnam’s 5% broken rice will reach 653 USD/ton, nearly 93 USD higher than the same type of product in Thailand, 90 USD/ton higher than the same type of rice. of Pakistan. With 25% broken rice, Vietnamese rice sells for 638 USD/ton, 118 USD/ton higher than the same product from Thailand and 150 USD/ton higher than Pakistan.

Promote export measures

Regarding solutions to maintain and enhance the development momentum of agricultural, forestry and fishery exports, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien shared: In the second quarter of 2024, the Ministry will focus on implementing projects to promote agricultural exports, forestry and fisheries to approved key markets from the end of 2023 such as China, the United States, Japan, and the EU. Along with that, the authorities also strive to open new markets with great potential such as Halal Muslim countries, the Middle East, Africa… Thanks to that, the product consumption market is expanded, agricultural, forestry and fishery exports continue to maintain high growth momentum.

To ensure reputation and build brands for agricultural products to dominate the domestic market, aiming for export, leaders of the Agriculture sector said that it is necessary to focus on supporting localities in building codes for growing areas and establishments. packaging in compliance with regulations and standards on hygiene and food safety, in order to increase the value of agricultural products and meet conditions and regulations for export.

With the challenges facing the crop industry from now until the end of the year, the leader of the Department of Crop Production added that major industries such as coffee and pepper will not be affected, because export output during the crop year will not be affected. 2023 – 2024 has been harvested. As for rice, in the past 6 months, the whole country has cultivated 5.03 million hectares, an increase of 0.9% over the same period last year; harvested 3.48 million hectares, an increase of 0.5%; Average yield is 67.1 tons/ha, an increase of 0.7 tons/ha; output on harvested area is 23.3 million tons, an increase of 1.6%… These are the premises for sustained growth from 2023 of key agricultural, forestry and fishery products.

In the second half of 2024, the Department of Crop Production will focus on directing the production of summer-autumn, autumn-winter and seasonal rice crops in accordance with weather and market developments, ensuring domestic consumption and export, and ensuring set goals, including the goal of strongly developing the market, removing barriers, and facilitating consumption.
