Agri exports to China expected to boom

China has agreed to import more fruit from Vietnam and will consider importing its poultry products.

Vietnam’s exports of agriculture, forestry and fisheries products to China are expected to boom after China agreed to open the door to more Vietnamese fruit and to consider importing its poultry products, according to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam.
The Deputy Minister led a delegation on a working visit to China, aimed at promoting bilateral cooperation in farm produce exports and imports.
In particular, he said, the Chinese side is considering opening its doors to Vietnamese avocado and passionfruit.
He noted that with a market of 1.4 billion people, China’s meat consumption is estimated at $400 billion a year. If Vietnam could sign a protocol on poultry product exports to its northern neighbor and negotiate signing another protocol on the export of pork to the market, export revenue of livestock products would reach into the billions of USD each year, he said.
Vietnam earned $12.2 billion from exporting agriculture, forestry and fisheries products to China in 2023.
