Fruit and vegetable exports set new record, reaching over 6.6 billion USD

According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, in the first 11 months of this year, fruit and vegetable exports reached more than 6.6 billion USD.

This is the first time that Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports have exceeded the 6 billion USD mark. This is the figure calculated by the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association based on data from the General Department of Customs.

In November, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports reached a preliminary value of 445 million USD, down 14% compared to the previous month but still up nearly 20% compared to the same period last year.

It is estimated that in 11 months, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports reached a preliminary value of more than 6.6 billion USD, up 27% compared to the same period last year. This is the first time Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports have exceeded the 6 billion USD/year mark.

China is still the largest market for Vietnamese fruit and vegetables, with nearly 4.1 billion USD in 10 months. This level increased by nearly 30% compared to the same period last year and accounted for 67% of the country’s total fruit and vegetable export turnover.

For the fruit and vegetable industry, this is also a very impressive figure, marking the first time that export turnover to the Chinese market exceeded 4 billion USD. This figure far exceeded the export record achieved in the whole of last year, which was 3.6 billion USD in the Chinese market alone.

Other major markets also recorded high growth in fruit and vegetable exports, such as the US with an increase of 35%, South Korea with an increase of 41% and Thailand with an increase of 70%. Meanwhile, the Netherlands was the only market where Vietnam saw a decrease in fruit and vegetable export value of up to 26%.

General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen shared that durian is still the main driving force for Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports to reach a record level. This fruit currently accounts for more than 40% of fruit and vegetable export turnover in 10 months and China is the market that buys the most of this fruit.
