Consumption appears to be recovering in the country after a decline in exports early last year.
Vietnam is currently the seventh-largest seafood supplier to Canada, figures from the Canadian Border Services Agency show.
The information was revealed by the Import-Export Department at the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
In December alone, Vietnam earned $21.8 million from exporting seafood to Canada, up 14.2 per cent year-on-year, figures from the General Department of Vietnam Customs reveal, the Cong Thuong (Industry and Trade) online newspaper has reported.
This was the fourth consecutive month that exports to the demanding market witnessed an increase year-on-year.
Seafood exports to Canada witnessed continual sharp falls in the opening months of 2023, by 38.5 per cent compared to the same period of 2022.
Canada’s seafood consumption headed downwards as consumers turned to beef, chicken, and other protein in the context of economic difficulties.
