Vietnam’s agricultural industry has made a breakthrough with strong export growth, expanding global markets and affirming product quality.

The past months of 2024 have witnessed a bright picture of agricultural exports when Vietnam’s agricultural products not only increased in value but also significantly expanded their export markets. Over the first two quarters of the year, our country’s agricultural sector has achieved many successes, bringing positive signals to the entire economy.

According to a report from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery in July 2024 is estimated at 5.11 billion USD, an increase of 18.2% over the same period in 2023. Of which, the main agricultural products reached 2.45 billion USD; forestry products reached 1.46 billion USD; aquatic products reached 880 million USD; and livestock reached 48 million USD. These figures not only demonstrate the sustainable development of the industry but also show the continuous efforts of export enterprises.

In particular, items such as coffee, rice, and vegetables have made strong progress. Specifically, coffee export turnover reached nearly 3.6 billion USD, up 31%; rice reached nearly 3.3 billion USD, up 25%; and vegetables and fruits reached more than 3.8 billion USD, up 24.3% over the same period last year.

Not only stopping at numbers, positive signals are also shown through the expansion of export markets. Vietnamese agricultural products have increasingly appeared in demanding markets such as the EU, the United States, and Japan. This shows that the quality of our agricultural products is increasingly improved, meeting the increasingly strict needs of international consumers.

Many Vietnamese fruits have conquered demanding markets.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tung, General Director of Vina T&T Company, shared that in 2024, the company exported An Giang mangoes to the US and Australia for the first time, and the company’s durians were also exported to China in large quantities. Mr. Tung affirmed that the export of agricultural products in the past 7 months has been very favorable, with strong growth in export turnover.

The leader of Tra Vinh Farm Company Limited also said that with products related to coconut nectar, the company’s export activities in the first half of the year increased by about 200% compared to 2023, mainly to the markets of Germany, the Netherlands, the US, and Australia.

Durian is one of the most prominent products in the agricultural export picture in recent times. Considered by many enterprises as the “soul” of Vietnamese fruit, frozen durian exported to China is always priced 2.5 times higher than fresh durian, and enterprises always receive many large orders.

The rice industry has also recorded remarkable achievements. For the first time, Vietnamese rice was exported to the Philippines with nearly 1.94 million tons, worth more than 1.2 billion USD, up more than 14% in volume and 40% in value. The average export price of Vietnamese rice in the past 6 months reached a record high, up to 636 USD/ton, up 18% over the same period in 2023.

With positive signals from the market, the second half of 2024 promises to be a busy period for agricultural exports. However, to seize this “golden opportunity”, exporting enterprises need to continue to make efforts to improve product quality, ensure prestige and meet the strict standards of the international market.

Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, emphasized that investing in processing technology and improving technical barriers are prerequisites for enterprises to continue to succeed in the global market.

In general, 2024 has brought positive signals to the Vietnamese agricultural export industry. With the continuous efforts of enterprises and managers, we have every right to believe in a brighter future for the country’s agricultural industry, where “made in Vietnam” products continue to conquer the most demanding markets in the world.
