According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in the first 4 months of 2024, exports will grow strongly and evenly in all 3 groups of agricultural products, industrial processing and manufacturing, and mineral fuels.

Specifically, the agricultural product group will continue its growth momentum from 2023 until now, the total export turnover of this product group is estimated to reach 11.98 billion USD, up 26% over the same period in 2023, accounting for 9.69% of the total export turnover export quota nationwide.

China, Thailand, Korea, and Japan are Vietnam’s major fruit and vegetable export markets.

Due to increased export prices, most products in this group achieved high double-digit export turnover growth rates compared to the same period last year, such as: Coffee increased by 57.9%; rice increased by 36.5%; Tea of all kinds increased by 25.5%; vegetables and fruits increased by 32.1%; Cashew kernels increased by 21.2%; Cassava and products from cassava increased by 19.2%.

Regarding fruit and vegetable exports, Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, said that China, Thailand, Korea, and Japan are Vietnam’s major fruit and vegetable export markets, accounting for 98% of the total. turnover. In addition, some ASEAN markets are not difficult markets, so they will be a place for businesses to test the adaptability of their products, thereby serving as a springboard to move to other markets.

According to Mr. Nguyen, in the first quarter of 2024, China is the market importing the most bananas from Vietnam compared to other countries. Dragon fruit exports to China also increased sharply because dragon fruit in China only comes into season in May. By June, the supply to the market will be abundant, then Vietnam’s dragon fruit exports will decrease. It is expected that in the second quarter of 2024, fruit and vegetable exports will increase more than in the second quarter of 2023, thanks to the contribution of durian, because this year the durian area for harvest increased compared to 2023.

In addition, the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that the proportion of Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports to the Asian region accounts for 82.4% of the total export value, of which fruits and vegetables are mainly exported to Asia. China. The growth rate of this market is high, contributing to promoting fruit and vegetable exports in the first quarter of 2024. The export value of fruits and vegetables to the Chinese market accounts for 59.14% of the total export value of fruits and vegetables nationwide. “The demand for fruit and vegetable consumption in China is very large, but the import value from Vietnam is still low, so the opportunity for the fruit and vegetable industry to increase market share in China is still open,” said a representative of the Export Department. import said.

Along with vegetables and fruits, the Import-Export Department forecasts that Vietnam’s cashew exports will increase in the months of the second quarter of 2024 thanks to increased world demand. In particular, consumption demand in the US market shows signs of recovery, and a sharp decrease in inventory will lead to increased imports. In Asia, the Chinese market especially favors Vietnamese cashews thanks to stable year-round supply and good product quality. In addition, the Asian region is not affected by the Red Sea conflict, which is a good condition for Vietnam’s cashew exports.

According to Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), businesses need to take advantage of the rapid recovery of ASEAN markets and some Asian countries to boost exports in the coming time.
