TCDN – After the negotiation process, the Korean Plant Quarantine Agency has agreed on the criteria and requirements to prepare to export Vietnamese fresh grapefruit to the Korean market.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Hieu – Deputy Director of the Plant Protection Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) said that the Korean side has just agreed on the conditions for exporting grapefruit from Vietnam to this market.
According to Mr. Hieu, after the negotiation process, the unit and the Korean Plant Quarantine Agency have agreed on the criteria and requirements for exporting our country’s fresh grapefruit to this market.
“If nothing changes, in July, the two sides can complete the negotiations and next time Vietnam can export grapefruit to Korea,” Mr. Hieu said.
Leaders of the Plant Protection Department assessed that Korea is a potential market for Vietnamese grapefruit, helping this product increase turnover and become an important export agricultural product of Vietnam.
Currently, the whole country has 105,400 hectares of grapefruit cultivation, with an output of nearly 905,000 tons with diverse grapefruit varieties, typical for each region. The Mekong Delta region has a grapefruit growing area of about 32,000 hectares with an output of 369,000 tons. This is also the area where the most green-skinned grapefruits are grown.
