Three billion-dollar agricultural products, coffee, vegetables and rice, have seen bumper sales and export prices in the first 10 months of 2024, bringing in export turnover far exceeding last year.

Fruit and vegetable exports in the first 10 months of 2024 exceeded last year by 560 million USD, the largest contributor was durian with nearly 3 billion USD.

Of which, coffee exceeded the export volume for the whole year of 2023 by nearly 340 million USD, rice exceeded 160 million USD, and fruits and vegetables exceeded the highest, nearly 600 million USD.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the total rice export volume in the past 10 months reached nearly 7.8 million tons, worth nearly 4.86 billion USD, up 10.2% and 23.4% respectively over the same period last year. This figure also surpassed the record of 4.67 billion USD for the whole year of 2023.

For coffee, exports reached 1.2 million tons, earning 4.57 billion USD. Although the coffee export volume decreased by 10.8% compared to the same period last year, the value increased by more than 40%.

Fruit and vegetable exports in the first 10 months had the highest increase compared to last year’s performance, bringing in 6.16 billion USD, an increase of 560 million USD.

Export turnover of rice, coffee, vegetables and fruits in 10 months and last year.

The reason these agricultural products have high value is due to the strong improvement in export prices. In particular, the average export price of coffee in the past 10 months is estimated at 3,981 USD/ton, an increase of 57% over the same period last year. Many markets have increased their purchases of Vietnamese coffee, such as the Philippines and Malaysia, which have both increased by 2.2 times compared to 2023.

The scenario is almost certain, coffee exports this year will reach 5-5.1 billion USD.

The fruit and vegetable industry is also on the path of strong export acceleration for the past 2 consecutive years. Durian continues to be the largest contributor, bringing in more than 3 billion USD in 10 months, accounting for nearly 50% of total export turnover. Other products such as bananas, mangoes, dragon fruit and processed products also make important contributions.

China remains the largest market for importing Vietnamese fruits and vegetables with 4.5 billion USD, up 38% over the same period in 2023. Markets such as Thailand, the US, South Korea and Japan also recorded strong growth with double digits.

The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vnfruit) believes that this year’s fruit and vegetable exports could reach 7.2-7.5 billion USD.

The average export price of rice in the first 10 months of 2024 continued to remain high compared to the same period, reaching 626.2 USD/ton, up 12%. With the export speed of the past 10 months and domestic production capacity, rice exports will reach over 8 million tons.

In the remaining 2 months of 2024, rice exports will remain favorable thanks to good prices and increased import demand from some major markets such as the Philippines, Indonesia, etc. It is forecasted that the rice industry can achieve export turnover of more than 5 billion USD this year.

Thus, these three billion-dollar agricultural product groups can achieve revenue of 17.8 – 18.3 billion USD, contributing greatly to the total export turnover of about 60 billion USD of the entire agricultural sector.
