Despite the hot weather, during the past week, every day about 20 trucks carrying fresh lychee were cleared for export to China.

Early ripening litchi is mainly grown in Bac Giang and Hai Duong provinces and is refrigerated in styrofoam boxes to be transported to the northern border gates.

The amount of lychee exported to China is expected to increase in the coming days because the lychee is in the main season.

Before the lychee season, Lao Cai province has planned to improve the clearance capacity at the border gates to ensure the freshness of the lychee.

Deputy Director of Lao Cai International Border Gate Customs Branch Pham Van Phuc said: “All shipments of fresh lychee arriving at the border gate are given priority for clearance before other shipments.”
