According to statistics, in April this year, exported vegetables and fruits helped our country earn 410 million USD, a sudden increase of 175% compared to April 2022. In the first four months of the year, the export value of vegetables and fruits reached US$1.39 billion, up 19.4% over the same period last year.

Items with a sharp increase in turnover include: dragon fruit, durian, mango, jackfruit… In which, the main export market is China.

Vegetables and fruits are also one of the few key export groups of our country’s agricultural industry to maintain a positive growth rate in the first 4 months of this year.

In terms of export markets, in the first 3 months of 2023, China leads in fruit and vegetable consumption of Vietnam with 58.7% market share, worth 576.4 million USD, up 27.4% over the same period. period 2022.

In particular, in the first quarter of 2023, Vietnam’s durian export turnover reached 153.5 million USD, an increase of more than 8.3 times (733.2%) compared to the same period last year. In which, China accounted for 87% of the market share with a turnover of 133.6 million USD.

Fruit and vegetable exports earned 1.39 billion USD in the first 4 months of this year

Statistics also show that the export market of vegetables and fruits with the strongest increase in value is Laos, 2.8 times higher than the same period in 2022. However, the Lao market only accounts for a small part of the total turnover. fruit and vegetable exports of Vietnam.

In contrast, exports of vegetables and fruits to the US in the first three months of this year decreased by nearly 18%, and to Australia decreased by 20.2% over the same period last year.

Ms. Ngo Tuong Vy, CEO of Chanh Thu Fruit Import Export Group Joint Stock Company, said that due to many products, it is involved in deep processing and packaging to meet the requirements of partners, so the company receives a lot of money. many orders. There are fruit products that businesses cannot supply enough for importers. Not only exported to China, the US but also other markets.

Chanh Thu has processing plants in Dak Lak and Ben Tre. This enterprise continuously buys and processes to meet export orders. Ms. Vy emphasized that the development of vegetables and fruits in the direction of processing helps control prices and increases the value of goods by 3 to 4 times compared to fresh goods. At the same time, increase the storage time of fruits and vegetables, solve the situation of local redundancy when harvesting the main crop.

With positive signals from the export market, Ms. Vy expects the company to reach 150% of the plan by 2023.

The general director of a large fruit processing enterprise in our country also revealed that since the beginning of the year, orders are always full, especially from the Chinese market.

In the harvest season 2.6 million tons of fruit

According to the Department of Crop Production (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), in the second quarter of 2023, the country’s fruit output is estimated at over 2.6 million tons. Of which, about 460 thousand tons of bananas, 350 thousand tons of mangoes, 300,000 tons of durians, 250 thousand tons of dragon fruits, 330 thousand tons of lychee, 217 thousand tons of pineapples, 110 thousand tons of longan and 180 thousand tons of oranges…

The supply of fruit is very abundant, able to meet the needs of domestic consumption and export orders.

Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, said that the export of vegetables and fruits will continue to be favorable in the second quarter. This group of products is regaining an impressive performance beyond expectations, making Vietnam’s fruit market more vibrant.

In the first 3 months of 2023, Vietnamese durian has not yet entered the main season, so it is only exported in moderation to the Chinese market. From April onwards, the Western durian enters the main harvest, the supply is abundant, and begins to meet the orders.

Along with that, jackfruit, banana and dragon fruit are the main agricultural products that will bring fruit and vegetable export turnover to the Chinese market. Recently, sweet potatoes have also exported the first batch to this market.

He forecast that vegetables and fruits exported to China will earn about $2.5 billion this year, demonstrating the great prospect of this industry in a market of 1.4 billion people.
