Many agricultural products hit the season, get good prices
In the Winter-Spring crop (February) 2022-2023, many key agricultural products of Long An province such as lemons, dragon fruit, rice, etc. are in good season, well priced, and farmers are excited, contributing to the good growth of the Agriculture industry and improve people’s quality of life.
1. In the rice crop season of 2022-2023, the whole province sowed over 224,000 hectares, reaching 104% of the plan. Thanks to favorable weather, less pests and diseases; At the same time, farmers strictly adhere to the sowing schedule and apply scientific and technical advances to farming, so the dry yield is estimated at 6.7 tons/ha, the output is over 1.5 million tons, and the profit over 19 million dong/ha (5.5 million dong/ha higher than the winter season 2021-2022).
Vice Chairman of Tan Thanh District People’s Committee – Le Phuoc Ven said: “In the spring season of 2022-2023, the whole district sowed over 29,400ha, reaching 101% of the plan. Recently, the district has promoted propaganda about the effectiveness of high technology application in production. Specifically, in the winter season 2022-2023, farmers use 97% certified varieties with high-quality rice groups; 100% mechanization is used from tillage to harvesting, etc. Thereby, the dry yield is estimated at 6.9 tons/ha, profit is 25 million VND/ha, farmers are very excited.
Information from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the situation of rice consumption in the winter of 2022-2023 is relatively favorable, the selling price is higher than the same period. The selling price of quality, lightly fragrant and sticky rice groups increased from 500-2,400 VND/kg, especially for fragrant rice varieties ST24, ST25 equivalent to the same period. Specifically, the price of IR 50404 rice is from 6,000-6,300 VND/kg (increasing 900-1,000 VND/kg); OM 5451 from 6,000-6,500 VND/kg (increasing 500-800 VND/kg); IR 4625 sticky rice from 7,000-8,000 VND/kg (up 1,900-2,400 VND kg),…
2. Currently, the whole province has over 11,720ha of lemons, in which, the area for fruit is over 10,000ha, concentrated in the districts: Ben Luc, Duc Hoa, Thu Thua and Thanh Hoa. Specifically, Ben Luc district has over 6,700 hectares of lemons, of which 5,700 hectares are for fruit, with an output of over 97,700 tons/year.
The situation of lemon consumption in Ben Luc district from the beginning of 2023 to now is very favorable, the average price of lemons is 19,000 VND/kg, the price of seedless lemons is sometimes up to 24,000-25,000 VND/kg. Mr. Ho Van Da (Tan Hoa commune, Ben Luc district) said: “This year, the weather is favorable, with few pests and diseases, so production costs are low, especially lemons are sold at a high price. profit over 160 million VND/ha”.
In 2021, the Covid-19 epidemic was complicated, China implemented Zero Covid, so it was difficult for Vietnamese agricultural products to export, including dragon fruit. However, from the beginning of 2023 until now when China opened, the average price of dragon fruit was 12,000 VND/kg, the average profit was 52 million VND/ha.
Jackfruit is one of the crops with very stable prices from the beginning of the year until now. Currently, the province has nearly 2,700 hectares of jackfruit, of which the area for fruit is over 1,700 hectares, the output is over 32,500 tons. Total investment cost is nearly 100 million VND/ha. After a period of price decline, from the end of 2022 until now, the price of jackfruit started to increase and remained at a stable level. Specifically, the price of the first grade jackfruit ranges from 30,000-40,000 VND/kg, the second grade jackfruit from 18,000-28,000 VND/kg.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hien (Binh Thanh commune, Moc Hoa district) has been with jackfruit trees for over 5 years. Even when the price of jackfruit was low, even if no one bought it, he still stuck with this crop. Mr. Hien shared: “The price of jackfruit at 7,000-8,000 VND/kg means that farmers have made a profit. In previous years, the price of jackfruit was always up and down erratically, from the end of 2022 until now, the price has remained at a stable level, all farmers are happy.”
